Everybody Rides was created by SORTA in August 2006 as part of its mission to provide cost-effective, efficient, quality mass transit services.
Metro has some of the lowest fares in the country, but when faced with paying for housing, food, medicine and other necessities some people find even modest bus fare difficult to afford.
33% of metro riders are below the federal poverty level.

59% of Metro riders currently do not own or lease a vehicle.
41% of Metro riders report that Metro is their only form of transportation.
36% of Metro riders have turned down a job offer because public transportation was not available.
18% of Metro riders have lost a job because public transportation was not available.
21% of Metro riders report that a disability, handicap, or chronic disease keeps them from fully participating in work, school, housework or other activities.

Pilot Program
In order to distribute tokens in the most effective way possible, Everybody Rides Metro has partnered with a group of local charity organizations to begin a 12 month pilot program. To date the pilot program has provided 15 agencies with more than 10,000 rides.
